Paris Saint Germain announced on Tuesday that there would be a new manager in their dugout next season. Mauricio Pochettino was sacked, and a couple of hours later, Christophe Galtier was announced as the new head coach.
It was at a press-conference, joined by Nasser Al-Khelaifi, that Galtier was announced. He spoke about the style of football that he wants to play, the dressing room and wanted to go over the signings that the French team had made.
"I am aware of this challenge, I know what I'm facing and I feel capable. But alone, it's very complicated. We are stronger together. Juanco told me about this project with Luis Campos, and it didn't take me long to make up my mind. I face it with great determination. It is normal that there are a lot of expectations", said Galtier as soon as he was presented.
One of the topics discussed, was style: "We have to win and play well. I'm going to have world class players. This team has possession and needs to have balance, but it won't be the same as what I've done with other teams, becuase I have a different group".
"I've had other dressing rooms with a lot of ego and it is a privilege to have this group. We have to impose the strength of the group because we have to have a project. I'm not here to revolutionize the dressing room, but I have to make decisions," confirmed Galtier.
The new coach was questioned about transfers, and passed over to Luis Campos: "I have worked a lot with him and I can say that he has never brought in a player without my opinion. I also take care of the day-to-day and if there are things I don't like, I intervene. But I also share it with Luis and we decide together".
Before Galtier's arrival, PSG all but confirmed that Neymar would leave. However, everything has changed with the ex-Lille coach.
"Neymar is a world class player. What manager wouldn't want to have him in their team? There needs to be balance, but I am clear with what I want from him and I'm sure that he'll stay with us because we want the best", he stated.
He spoke about Mbappe, another one of the club's stars, saying that he's: "happy that he's staying at PSG". "It's good for our football and for the club. He's one of the best players in the world, but we don't have to put the responsibility on him. There are other teammates, and if we play as a team, we will have a great season. There is no need to put added pressure on him and I expect him to be as decisive as ever, but he is still a very strong player within a team," he added.
One of the most important issues to be addressed by Galtier will be the goalkeeper: "I have to talk to both of them. There can be a one and a two, and change throughout the season."
"No one is going to be above the team. I want to be demanding and decisive in order to have the best season possible. Whoever is not at the service of the group will be discarded, but it will be done internally."
