What is at stake? Euro 2024

The group stage of the European Championship is almost over. This Sunday the third and final matchday begins with the matches corresponding to group A. Germany, Spain and Portugal are the only teams to have made it through, with 'La Roja' and the 'Quinas' already in first place.

The stakes are high, especially since UEFA increased the number of teams to 24, which means that four of the six third-placed teams will advance to the Round of 16.

Now it's time to look at the scenarios that have to be in place for each country to advance to the next round of the European Championship in Germany.

Group A
Germany

- Qualify as first if they win or draw
- Qualify as runners-up if they lose

Switzerland

- Qualify as first if they win
- Qualify as runners-up if they draw
- Qualify as second if they lose, Scotland win and the goal difference between the two matches is less than 6.
- Qualify as third if they lose, Scotland win and the goal difference between the two matches is greater than 6.

Scotland

- Qualify as second if it wins, Switzerland loses and the goal difference between the two matches is greater than 6.
- Qualify as third if it wins, Switzerland loses, the goal difference between the two matches is less than 6 and it is one of the best third-placed teams.

Hungary

- Qualify as third if it wins and is one of the best third-placed teams.

Group B
Spain

- Already qualified as first.

Italy

- Qualify as second if they win or draw.
- Qualify as third if it loses, Albania does not win and is one of the best third-placed teams.

Albania

- Qualify as runners-up if it wins and Croatia also wins by two goals or less than Albania.
- Qualify as third if they win and Italy scores.
- Qualify as third if they win and Croatia also qualify by three goals or more than Albania.

Croatia

- Qualify as runners-up if they win and Albania do not win
- Qualify as runner-up if it wins and Albania also wins, exceeding the overall goal average.
- Qualify as third if it wins and Albania also wins and Croatia does not overtake Albania on aggregate points difference.

Group C
England

- Qualify first if they win
- Qualify first if they draw and Denmark do not win
- Qualify as runners-up if they draw and Denmark win
- Qualify as third if they lose and Denmark wins

Denmark

- Qualify as first if England win and England draw
- Qualify as first if they win by more goals than Slovenia scores against England
- Qualify as runners-up if they win and England also win
- Qualify as runners-up if they draw and England also draw
- Qualify as third if they draw and Slovenia win and are one of the best third-placed teams

Slovenia

- Qualify as first if it wins and beats Denmark's figures.
- Qualify as second if they draw and do not beat Denmark's figures
- Qualify as third if they draw and are one of the best third place finishers

Serbia

- Qualify as second if it wins and Slovenia fails to do so
- Qualify as third if they win and Slovenia also wins

Group D
Netherlands

- Qualify first if they win and improve on France's record
- Qualify first if they draw and France fail to win
- Qualify as runners-up if they win and do not improve on France's figures
- Qualify as runners-up if they draw and France win
- Qualify as runners-up if they lose and France also lose by the same or more goals
- Qualify as third if they lose and France do not
- Qualify as third if it loses and France also loses by a lower number of goals

France

- Qualify first if they win and the Netherlands also win but by fewer goals
- Qualify as first if it wins and the Netherlands draw
