The England international scored twice in a comfortable 3-1 win for Unai Emery's side to take his tally to four goals in six games in all competitions this season.
Just two of those appearances have come from the off, with the former Manchester United man yet to start a game in the Premier League this term.
Nevertheless, speaking following the win Welbeck said he was happy to wait for his chance, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette very much above him in the pecking order.
"You have got to wait for your opportunity," he explained.
"A few of the lads had a bit more of a pre-season than me which made it a bit difficult, I came back a bit later than the others.
"I got 90 minutes last week, 90 minutes today and I'm just going to build on it from there and keep improving."
The 27-year-old's performances clearly aren't going unnoticed, with Emery admitting after the game that he is very much in his thoughts.
