Valencia give Rafa Mir two days' time off

Valencia have exempted Rafa Mir from attending the team's next two training sessions and want to analyse in depth what has happened in recent days and the situation of the player who on Wednesday was provisionally released, but is under investigation for a crime of sexual assault and who has been imposed precautionary measures.

According to ‘EFE’, the club has informed the player that, unlike his teammates, he is not forced to go to the Paterna training complex on Thursday or Friday to train under the orders of Ruben Baraja. As the coach is expected to give his players the weekend off, that would leave Valencia a margin

The player was taken into custody on Wednesday after a young woman reported him for sexual assault. Mir assured in his statement that the relations were consensual and the head of the Court of Instruction 8 of Lliria released him provisionally after none of the parties requested pre-trial detention.

Among the precautionary measures is the withdrawal of his passport as well as the prohibition to leave the country, a 500-metre distance order from the complainants and the prohibition to contact them, as well as the obligation to sign in weekly at the court.

According to the complainant's account, in the early hours of Saturday morning she and a friend met Mir and a friend, also a footballer from Murcia, Pablo Jara, and went to Mir's house, whom she accused of having sexually assaulted her after locking her in a bathroom. The other woman accused the other detainee of having assaulted and injured her.

After learning of Mir's arrest, Valencia issued a statement in which it said it was unaware of the details of the case and placed itself at the disposal of the justice system to collaborate in whatever was required of it.
