Manchester City opened the Premier League 2023/24 with a visit to Burnley, one of the 3 newly promoted teams from the Championship. It was the 1st opportunity for Erling Haaland to score against this team, 1 of the 6 teams that make up this edition of the English championship that he had not scored against in the league tournament along with Chelsea, Liverpool, Brentford and those who also come from the second tier, Sheffield United and Luton Town. And he did not waste it. He scored twice and left only five teams on his list. And now, with 13 games played, the list is down to two.
Last season, the Norwegian took part in 35 of the 38 matchdays. He missed only three games, away to Leicester and Brentford and at home to Liverpool. He did score at home against the Foxes, where he scored a brace, but he left without scoring against Brentford, who won 1-2 at the Ettihad and against whom he was on the bench on the last matchday, and against the Reds, who won 1-0 at Anfield.
For their part, Chelsea can boast of having escaped Haaland's goalscoring instinct despite having faced him twice in the last Premier League season. Manchester City won both games narrowly, but it was Mahrez at Stamford Bridge and Julian Alvarez at the Etihad who scored for Pep Guardiola's side.

On Matchday 3, this list was down to 4 teams. City took on Sheffield United and won 1-2 with a goal from the former Molde player. And on 12th November, Chelsea also fell out of this small group of teams. The Blues, in a spectacular 4-4 draw, conceded two goals from Haaland. Liverpool were the next team the former Dortmund man crossed off his list, scoring a record-breaking goal that made him the fastest player to reach 50 Premier League goals - he needed just 48 games. Pep's side visit Luton Town on 9th December.
The last opponent could be delayed longer than expected. The Cityzens, as Champions League winners, will play the Club World Cup in December. They are due to face Brentford on the 23rd, a match that has already been postponed by the Premier League. It is not yet known the new date that could have the Norwegian at the expense of leaving that list to 0.
We now look back at the 16 opponents last year against whom Haaland did score. His favourite Premier League victims were Crystal Palace and Wolves, with 4 goals conceded by the No.9, while West Ham, Southampton, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest conceded 3. The former Borussia Dortmund man scored 2 goals against Arsenal, Leeds, Leicester, Everton, Brighton and Fulham, while only Newcastle, Tottenham, Bournemouth and Aston Villa had 1 goal conceded by the Norwegian.
