The night of the 7th August was bleak for the Madrid defender. Varane made two mistakes, out of character for him in one of his worst, if not the worst, showings of his otherwise succesful career.
The Madrid player, after being knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of an unforgiving City, came out and assumed full responsibility for the difficult defeat: "This was all on me".
Little more than two months later, the French centre back has given an interview in 'BeIN Sports France', reminiscing about everything that had happened and reflected on the match.
"Just after the match I wanted to take responsibilty for the mistakes that I made and that cost us the win. I had to take it all in, but then you have to overcome it and look to the future because that's football", He said.
The defender also gave his thoughts on his relationship with Sergio Ramos at the back who wasn't able to be in that decisive match at the Etihad.
"We complement each other in the way we play and we have abilities that work well together. We've played together for many years and we know each other very well. I speak with my teammates about technique and positioning on the field. I am also a leader in my own way", finished Varane who starts over the new season with a clean slate.
