Erik ten Hag has had a bittersweet spell at Manchester United. The Dutch manager who looked set to turn around the fortunes of the Mancunian club has given as much joy, from winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final in 2024 to poor Premier League campaigns including the worst finish in the club's history.
One of those who have been very happy under Ten Hag has been Kobbie Mainoo, the established Manchester United gem who was brought from the reserve team to the first team by the former Ajax coach.
The Dutch coach gave him his first-team debut in the 2022/2023 season at the age of just 17. Last season the English midfielder established himself as a regular in the Mancunian starting eleven, making 32 official appearances of which 29 as a starter.
This season the England international continued in the same vein under the guidance of his manager until the club announced on Monday the end of Ten Hag's reign at Old Trafford. The young Red Devils product wanted to pay tribute to him by uploading a post on social media in which he thanked him for his confidence.
"Thank you for your trust and belief in me and for giving me the opportunity to play for my boyhood club. I wish you all the best for the future", reads the post published by the English midfielder.
