Szczesny saves debatable Messi penalty

Argentina had a golden opportunity to take the lead against Poland. They were given a penalty towards the end of the first half. 

Szczesny first saved a very dangerous shot by Julian Alvarez in a one on one situation and he had to react quickly to the Argentinian striker's cross. 

He tried to clear the cross at the far post and Leo Messi was there to shoot. He was caught by Szczesny himself. 

Despite the fact the referee had not given anything initially, the VAR recommended Danny Makkelie to review the incident. After a few replays, the penalty was given. 

Leo Messi was the one to that responsibility. He took a few steps back, shot to Szczesny's left and he guessed correctly to keep it 0-0.

However, seconds into the second period, Argentina took the lead when Molina and Di Maria combined before the former played a low cross for Mac Allister. The Brighton man's shot from inside the box went in off the far post to put Argentina ahead.
