Spain to issue commemorative coins for the 2026 World Cup

The Official State Gazette (BOE) announced on Friday the order from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Business for the issuance, minting, and circulation of a series of FIFA World Cup 2026 commemorative coins this year.

To mark the tournament, the collection will consist of three pieces: a one-ounce gold coin with a face value of €400, a two-escudo coin worth €100, and an eight-real coin with a face value of €10.

The obverse of all three coins will feature a portrait of King Felipe VI on the left, while the reverse designs will vary. The highest-value coin will depict a footballer striking a ball alongside the official tournament logo, with a maximum of 800 pieces to be minted.

The two-escudo coin, of which 1,500 units will be produced, will showcase a goalkeeper making a save, with the ball represented as a globe. Meanwhile, the lowest-value coin will feature a footballer in action, with a maximum of 6,000 units minted.

Production at the National Mint and Stamp Factory is set to begin in the first quarter of the year. The initial retail prices, excluding VAT, will be €3,290 for the highest-value coin, €870 for the two-escudo coin, and €61.98 for the eight-real piece. All coins will be available for individual purchase or as part of a collection.
