"Real Madrid need defenders? I'm focused on the Man City clash"

An injury-hit Real Madrid suffered a painful 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, complicating their chances of even finishing in the top 24 of the group stage and progressing to the next round of the competition. 

After long-term injuries to Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao and David Alaba, ‘Los Blancos’ have serious problems in defence, having to field youth players such as Raul Asencio or play Valverde as a false right-back in a game as important as the Reds. 

The Anfield side have two defenders who are among the best in the world in their position and their contracts expire in June 2025, so they can sign for another club as free agents. Alexander-Arnold is already a top priority for Real Madrid nd now it is Virgil van Dijk who has refused to close the door on a possible move to Spain. 

When the Dutchman was asked by ‘El Chiringuito de Jugones’ about his future, he said it was a "very direct" question and jokingly added that he is focused on Sunday's game against Manchester City. However, the Spanish reporter asked him if he would join Madrid, who need defenders, and the Reds centre-back replied the same. "Joining them in the summer? As I said, the main focus at the moment for me is Manchester City"
