The captains of all 20 Premier League teams will wear armbands in the colours of the Ukrainian flag this weekend as a show of solidarity with the Russian invasion of the country. The Premier League expressed its total rejection of the situation in Ukraine and announced that it will impose certain measures for matches to be played from Saturday 5th March to 7th March.
In addition to the armbands, there will be a minute's applause before the start of each match, which the Premiership invites fans, players, referees and coaches to join in as a "moment of reflection". The message "Football Stands Together" in the colours of the Ukrainian flag will also be displayed on the video scoreboards at matches.
This message of solidarity will also be visible to fans around the world through the digital channels of the Premier League, which has changed its social media logos with the English league symbol with the blue and yellow of Ukraine.
"We call for peace and our thoughts are with all those who have been impacted," the Premier League said in a statement.
