Aston Villa and Ollie Watkins reached an agreement to extend the English striker's contract. The striker who has scored seven goals this season for the Villains is committed until 30 June 2028 and received a pay rise.
The English striker has netted 21 times in 38 appearances under the Spaniard and believes they can achieve great things together. Watkins, who has been called up to the England squad for the games against Australia and Italy, recently reached 50 goals for Villa since joining from Brentford in 2020.
This last season was the most successful of his Villa career alongside 2020-2021, he scored 16 goals to help Emery's club into the Conference League. This campaign, the England striker, who was linked with Manchester United and Bayern Munich before the Bavarians signed Harry Kane, has seven goals to his name, including two hat tricks.
“I’m really happy. I feel like this is the best place for me to play my football; I’ve still got a lot to achieve here. I feel like I’ve had a really good connection with the fans since I’ve come here. From day one they’ve been really good with me; we’ve had highs and lows but that’s football. You can see the direction of the club, and I want to be a part of that," said Watkins.
"We’re only getting started. The boss has been here for a year and you’ve seen the form and progression of players. There are other levels we can get to. Hopefully we can push on and get to the Champions League spots – that’s the aim," Watkins added.
