Bayern Munich wanted to turn the page as soon as possible after the departure of Robert Lewandowski. On Tuesday, they confirmed the arrival of Mathys Tel from Stade de Rennes.
The young Frenchman joins the Bavarian club for 20 million euros fixed plus 8.5 million euros in variable payments, according to several German media. At 17 years of age, he will have the responsibility of taking over the role left by the Polish international in Germany.
"Mathys Tel is one of the biggest talents in Europe, a very quick, technically strong and versatile striker", said Hasan Salihamidzic, a member of Bayern's sporting board, when describing the German club's new signing.
Meanwhile, the French player is happy to be joining a huge club like Bayern: "FC Bayern are one of the best teams in the world. I'm very much looking forward to this great challenge and I will give my all for this club.
Tel's greatest strength is his versatility, allowing him to play in any attacking position. Last season he made ten appearances in Ligue 1 and a few weeks ago he won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship with France.
