Overnight on Sunday, social media was rocked by changes to the Instagram profiles of Alvaro Morata and his wife, Alice Campello. They had removed their pictures posted together and the biographies of complicity that connected them virtually, which triggered rumours of a possible break-up that was confirmed on Monday morning thanks to a story by the footballer.
"After some time of reflection, Alice and I have decided to go our separate ways. It has been a wonderful relationship of mutual respect where we have loved and helped each other a lot. They have been wonderful years and, as a result, our four children, who, without a doubt, are the best thing we have ever done. It is a painful decision, so we ask for respect and empathy," the Milan striker wrote.
"Don't make up stories for a minute in the limelight because I repeat: there has been no disrespect at any time, just a lot of continuous misunderstandings that, little by little, wear things down. Alice will always have a special place in my heart and everything we have experienced together has been incredible and a great learning experience", he added. By "disrespect", he refers to rumours that one of the two has had an extramarital affair.
Alvaro Morata's relationship with Alice Campello began in Turin, when he was playing for Juventus following his first exit from Real Madrid. They married in 2017 and, this summer, the Italian had appeared in several images that went viral on social media amid praise from Spanish national team fans celebrating their captain's sporting and personal triumph. Now, at 31, he is single again
