Naples suffers an earthquake ahead of hosting Madrid

Naples was rocked on Monday night by a 4.2-magnitude earthquake just hours before Napoli host Real Madrid in the Champions League. The epicentre of the quake was registered 9 kilometres north of the transalpine city.

The affected area is surrounded by the Campi Flegrei, a volcanic crater that surrounds the outskirts of the city. Fortunately, the hotel where Carlo Ancelotti's squad is staying is far from the most affected location.

Journalist Manolo Lama, from 'Cadena COPE', said he felt the earthquake: "I did feel it. It didn't last 10 seconds, but it was noticeable. Fortunately, Italy is a country that is prepared," he said on 'El Partidazo de COPE'.

Experts said it was the second strongest earthquake in Naples in the last 40 years after the one on 27th September. The earthquake was also felt in Salerno, 50 kilometres away.

A natural tragedy that caused the detachment of facades and even destroyed vehicles. The best news is that there are no major losses to report and, in principle, Napoli-Real Madrid is in no danger of being postponed.
