Miralem Pjanic returns to Europe and joins CSKA Moscva

Bosnian midfielder Miralem Pjanic is set to make his return to Europe after his stint in the United Arab Emirates with Sharjah FC to sign for CSKA Moscva.

The former Barcelona and Juventus player, passed his medical tests for the Russian club on Wednesday in a clinic in Moscow, reports 'Sport-Express'.

According to 'Sport-Express', the 34-year-old will sign his contract in the coming hours, which will see him stay at the club for one season with an option for an extra year, should the player's perfomances impress the club. 

After announcing his retirement from club football in May, Pjanic makes his comeback to the sport less than half a year later. The player was supposedly a specific requested from CSKA Moscva head coach Marko Nikolic, however, Russian critics have voiced their disapproval, expressing concerns regarding the player's ability to contribute to the team and make a difference due to his fitness levels.

The player posted an image of himself posting with CSKA scarf at Vnukovo airport, expressing his delight in joining the club. "Very happy. I can't wait to start. CSKA is a great club," he said. Pjanic will now play for the Russian side after reportedly refusing to participate in a friendly match against Russia in 2022, due to the war in Ukraine.
