Fabian Ruiz blushed when he was compared to Zinedine Zidane in the mixed zone at the Stade Geneva after his brace against Switzerland in Spain's 4-1 win. The Sevilla player said that ‘it is a big deal' and stressed the importance of 'a great victory' on the second matchday of the Nations League.
"The important thing is the team. I try to do my best and it was a great night with the two goals, but the important thing was to win. We knew we were going to suffer because Switzerland have great players, but the work of the team was huge and we made the most of the chances we had," he said.
"It's a big deal to compare myself to Zidane. I always try to help the team by giving my best and repay the coach's trust. It's a huge pride to represent my country. It's the greatest thing," he added.
Whenever Fabian has played as a starter for the Spanish national team, ‘La Roja’ has not lost. "I hope it continues like this, with data that is good for me but above all for the team. I've been lucky not to lose, we'll try to continue helping with that streak," he added.
The player from Los Palacios y Villafranca praised a win despite being a man down, with Spain playing with 10 men from the 20th minute, when Le Normand was sent off.
"It's a great victory. We were able to defend and suffer, despite the fact that our greatest virtue is not defence. When we're together, it's difficult to score against us, even when we're a man down. We have to continue to believe in ourselves," he said.
