Chelsea are to face Arsenal in the Europa League final in Baku on Wednesday but will likely do so without N'Golo Kante.
It is understood that the midfielder twisted his knee in training and that the injury will more than likely rule him out of contention, dealing Chelsea yet another a hefty blow just days before the clash.
The end of the season hasn't gone as planned for Kante who missed Chelsea's last two games with a hamstring injury. He had recovered from that before rejoining training early last week but this latest injury jeopardises his availability for Wednesday's final.
Kante adds to the list of injured senior players, joining Antonio Rudiger, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the latter two both having had operations for torn Achilles tendons.
Chelsea will hope that Kante will make a speedy recovery, while the prognosis for Hudson-Odoi and Loftus-Cheek isn't so promising.
“I don’t know the timing because it’s very difficult to say now: four months to six months", was Sarri's comment on the matter.
