Klaas-Jan Huntelaar seems to have decided to pursue a career as a coach. The former footballer, who played in the Dutch sixth division just under a month ago after announcing his retirement, has joined the coaching staff of Vitesse U21.
He will be Nicky Hofs' assistant there and will be able to experience what it is like to be on the other side of the bench. This was reported by 'De Telegraaf' and confirmed by the Eredivisie historian himself. Huntelaar will initially be on trial until the winter while he decides whether this life as a coach is to his liking.
Interestingly, the former footballer's son is progressing through the youth ranks at the Arnhem club, so if Huntelaar continues, he could be coaching him in the future.
Huntelaar ended his playing career at the end of the 2020-21 season when he returned to Schalke 04 for nine appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist. He had spent the previous three and a half seasons at Ajax.
