Matts Hummels' substitute role at Roma in recent weeks has become a clamour for the fans, who do not understand the decision of Ivan Juric, who opened the door to the World Cup winner's playing time in the next few games.
Hummels, who has had no minutes so far this season, is starting to grate in Rome because the fans do not understand the treatment given to a player who in June was a starter in the Champions League final. Especially when the player has made it clear on several occasions that he is physically fit.
His role, therefore, is due to a technical decision that Juric explained after his side's win over Dynamo Kyiv in the Europa League.
"I see Hummels in Ndicka's position. He is a great professional and I have to thank him for how he is behaving. At the moment, however, I see Ndicka better and in defence I prefer not to change and to be safe. Hummels' time will come and he will give us a big hand. Now it's my fault if he doesn't play, not his," the coach explained to reporters.
Against Dinamo, it looked like the expected debut was coming, but he warmed up for the whole second half and did not get any playing time.
Italian football is facing a busy period in the calendar. Roma will face Fiorentina on Sunday, Torino on Thursday, Hellas Verona on Sunday and Royale Union in Europa League on Thursday.
Four highly-charged games in a row, especially the Serie A games against Fiorentina and Torino, which could open the door to Hummels' first minutes.
