Spain's current crop are characterised by their pressing, tackling and fight. The new side that Luis Enrique is trying to bring to life suffered but won against a stubborn Norway on Saturday, and the manager, knowing implementing a new style would be difficult, highlighted the importance of starting on the front foot.
"We must be aggressive with and without the ball", he said before the game. It's a philosophy that the players, who have for so long been used to winning thanks to natural talent, are willing to take on board.
"I'm happy with everything, with the attitude, which is something we spoke about during the week. Occasionally when an opponent sits deep it's not necessary to press and in this situation it can be necessary for the goalkeeper to launch the ball quickly to the forwards. I'm more than happy with the team's attitude," Enrique affirmed.
Alvaro Morata showed the managers' new beliefs against Norway, and although he didn't score, did well to earn a penalty thanks to his hard-work and endeavour, something which his manager took note of.
"He was exceptional, creating chances, fighting and forcing mistakes from the Norwegians", Enrique commented.
