Genoa becomes the second club in the Italian top-flight to make a managerial change during the November international breal after Roma. The 'Rossoblu' confirmed on Tuesday their decision to sack Alberto Gilardino.
"Genoa CFC announces that Alberto Gilardino has been relieved of his duties as manager," read the club's posted on X - formerly known as Twitter. "The club would like to express its gratitude to Gilardino for the achievements reached together throughout the years and wishes him the best for the future."
According to Fabrizio Romano, former Arsenal player Patrick Vieira is set to take the reins at the Italian club as the two parties have already agreed on a contract. The Frenchman most recently manager Ligue 1 side Strasbourg during the 2023/24 season and Crystal Palace before that.
Viera will be given the task to turn Genoa's fortunes around as they are currently languishing in 17th in Serie A, just one point off the relegation zone. He is expected to take charge in the next few days ahead of the game against Cagliari on November 24th.
