Frimpong apologizes for disrespecting Atletico Madrid fans

The Riyadh Metropolitano was once again the setting for one of the greatest nights in the history of the 'Colchoneros'. Atletico Madrid claimed a dramatic victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the 90th minute and took a big step towards the top 8 of the competition.

However, the match was fraught with tension and controversy until the end. In the 25th minute, the Spanish side were reduced to ten men after Pablo Barrios was sent off for a tackle from behind. The ‘Colchoneros’ held on, but in the added time of the first half, Hincapie broke the deadlock.

It was during the celebration of that goal that an ugly gesture took place that angered the entire stand and the Atletico players themselves. Frimpong went to celebrate the goal and, out of euphoria and ignorance, kicked the traditional bouquet of flowers in the corner of the left corner placed by Margarita, an illustrious supporter of the team.

Gimenez noticed this and went to reprimand the Dutchman, who did not know what was going on. The Uruguayan and Nathan Tella, who stepped in to mediate, were given yellow cards.

On Wednesday, Frimpong took to his social media and took the blame for the unfortunate incident. He also admitted that he was unaware of the tradition at the Metropolitano: "After the game yesterday, I learned about the tradition of the bouquet of flowers at the Metropolitano. I didn't know about it and at the time of the goal I got carried away with excitement and made a mistake. I am sorry to the Atletico fans and especially to Margarita".
