Manchester City won the Club World Cup for the first time to end 2023 with five trophies after a 4-0 win over Fluminense in Jeddah on Friday. Their victory extended European clubs' domination of the competition since 2012.
However, some City players like Phil Foden feel that their achievements and efforts in recent games are not sufficiently recognised. The 23-year-old made it clear that they are not getting "enough credit" despite their great successes.
"I don't really think there's enough credit. This is unbelievably hard and so demanding, playing games every three days. So out of all that effort, to say that we’ve done this, is so good," he said in an interview.
The English forward has already won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, the European Super Cup, two FA Cups and four EFL Cups with Manchester City despite his age.
"The was our first time being able to win one (Club World Cup) - and we have to make sure it's not the last time. We want to keep building on this. Now that we've won it once, we know what it takes and we'll have the experience for next time when we get to the latter stages," he continued.
Foden went on to add: "Hopefully, we just keep going as a club and getting better. Kicking on from here was something we have spoken about, especially me.
"I wanted to win this because not only is it obviously a big competition for the club, but I thought it would give us the little boost going back into the season. It was what we needed. Now we've won it, that hopefully gives us that boost."
