2022 is over and 2023 has begun with FIFA looking for the best player in each position.
For the best goalkeeper of 2022, five are fighting for the prize. A few days, FIFA.com wrote a list of potential candidates and now the official five man list has been released.
Alisson, Bono, Courtois, Ederson and Emiliano Martinez are the five who will fight for the prize.
In their website, FIFA highlight the awards these goalkeepers have won in the previous season. Alisson won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in 2021-22 as well reaching the Champions League final.
Sevilla goalkeeper Bono was key in Morocco's run to the World Cup semi-final. He finished fourth in Qatar and won La Liga's Zamora trophy last season, an award given to the goalkeeper who concedes the fewest number of goals on average. He was also chosen as La Liga's best African player.
Real Madrid goalie Thibaut Courtois has of course made the list. He won La Liga, the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup last season.
Ederson and his 2021-22 Premier League trophy with Man City, is also opting for the best goalkeeper. He also won goalkeeper of the year in the Premier League last season.
To conclude, Argentina's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is the final candidate. He won the World Cup, the Golden Glove in Qatar and he kept two clean sheets during the tournament. The Aston Villa man fully deserves his place in the shortlist.
The ceremony will take place on 27th February. The winer will be decided through votes. 25% each from journalists, national team captains, coaches and fans.
