Fagioli called up for Bologna clash after ending gambling ban

Paolo Montero, who is Massimiliano Allegri's replacement to close Juventus' season as coach, called up Nicolo Fagioli, who had been sidelined for more than 200 days because of his gambling ban. He admitted he had been putting money on betting not only on his sport, but also on others.

Italy's Nicolo Fagioli returned to the Juventus squad on Monday after serving a seven-month ban for his gambling suspension.

Uruguay coach Paolo Montero, who took over on Sunday after Massimiliano Allegri was sacked for his behaviour in the Coppa Italia final, restored the young midfielder to the squad for Juve's clash with Thiago Motta's Bologna on Monday. Fagioli was last called up for the Serie A game against Atalanta in October last year, 232 days ago.

On 17 October, Fagioli reached a plea bargain with the Italian Football Federation after admitting to betting on football matches and received a sanction of seven months on the sidelines and a minimum of six months in therapy, as well as a fine of 12,500 euros.

In November, the Turin club, which showed their support for their academy player in a statement, renewed his contract for two more years, i.e., until 2028. Fagioli was again featured on the Italian club's TikTok channel entering training with fellow midfielder Weston McKennie.
