Bayern Munich will not exercise their option to buy Joao Cancelo and the full-back will have to return to Manchester City for next season. However, it seems that Pep Guardiola will not count on him, so the Portuguese will have to look for a new club in the summer transfer window.
According to Kicker, the defender is prioritising the opportunity to play for a top Spanish La Liga club, with Real Madrid and Barcelona interested in signing him for next season, as both need to reinforce their respective defences.
Meanwhile, Manchester City are willing to accept his transfer in exchange for 50 million euros. That is the price the English are asking to sell the rights of their player, although it is not ruled out that he could leave on loan, as happened with Bayern in the last winter transfer window.
For example, Barca have contacted his agent, Jorge Mendes, to express their interest and try to reach a verbal agreement before any other club. In that sense, Cancelo would arrive to start at right-back and displace Jules Kounde at centre-back.
Real Madrid also need a reinforcement on the right flank, although they would not mind the Portuguese playing on the left, a position that was occupied by Eduardo Camavinga this season due to Ferland Mendy's injury.
It remains to be seen if 'Los Blancos' are willing to pay the 50 million or if they will also try a loan deal, but what is certain is that the two biggest clubs in Spain will be competing for Cancelo, who is listening to offers.
