Bruno Guimaraes on Man City links: "I spoke to Pep once, but nothing more than rumours"

Bruno Guimaraes has been linked to a Newcastle exit for quite some time now. The midfielder was at the centre of transfer talk last summer, with reports claiming that Paris Saint-Germain were planning a swoop for him. Speculations were shut down by the player himself, who insisted: "My focus was always Newcastle. I'm very happy. I want to be a leader. I want to help the club in many ways."

But, It seems as though his words weren't enough to convince reporters as a move to the Etihad has now emerged as a potential destination for the Brazillian. Rumours intesified following Rodri's anterior cruciate ligament injury - set to keep him sidelined for the rest of the season - as reports targeted Guimaraes as a suitable replacement for the Spaniard. However, the Magpies skipper has come out once again to dismiss speculations. 

"I believe that at my club I am an idol and I have a lot of respect," he said in a recent interview with 'Globo Esporte'. "I am the captain of Newcastle and it is something that if you had asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League. Playing, being an idol, being captain is something wonderful. I really like Newcastle."

Guimaraes revealed that he once spoke to the Man City boss, but insisted the conversation was never about a possible move. "Of course, having Manchester City's interest shows that I am at a high level, but it was nothing more than interest. I know that Guardiola likes my football, it is normal to have great coaches who admire your football. We have spoken once after the interview, I praised his work, he praised my work, but it was nothing more than that," he said, reassuring that he's heart is at Newcastle.
