President of the United States Joe Biden made a toast to a bright future for the national football team this Saturday despite going out of the Qatar World Cup after losing to The Netherlands 3-1.
"Fellas, you made us proud. We get up and keep going", Biden wrote on Twitter after they harshly lost out to The Netherlands in the last-16 of the tournament.
"Here's to a bright future and 2026 back here at home", he said referring to the next World Cup which is to take place in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The President was very actively supporting the national side in the last few weeks. For example, Biden called the USA players before their first group game.
"Manager, put me on because I'm ready to play", the President started off by joking.
"I know that you guys are the underdog. But you've got some of the best players in the world in your team and you're representing this country", Biden then added when asking for them to trust in one another and that they leave it all out on the pitch.
What is more, before the last-16 game, Biden also shared a video in which he simulated receiving a ball kicked by Tyler Adams from Qatar.
"It's called 'soccer'. Let's go USA", the President said, alluding to the fact that in his country, the word 'football' is reserved for american football.
With goals from Memphis Depay, Daley Blind and Denzel Dumfries, The Netherlands beat The United States whose only goal this Saturday was scored by Haji Wright, and they will go up against Argentina in the next round.
