In the world of football, as in life, you can't take anything for granted, proved by what has happened with Sime Vrsaljko and Atletico Madrid. Around a month ago, everything seemed to suggest that the Croatian would renew for another season with the club in a straightforward negotiation for all parties involved.
It's worth noting that the former Dinamo Zagreb player became one of Diego Simeone's most important players after the winter transfer window, when Kieran Trippier returned to the Premier League.
However, both the footballer and the club were unable to reach an agreement and have opted to part ways for good. Seeing as both parties could not agree on certain issues to extend their ties, the club from the capital of Spain wanted to pay hommage to one of their most important players in recent times.
In their official farewell post, Atletico wanted to pay tribute to the defender who has played "100 games with Ateti". In written words, the club have listed the trophies that the Croatian international won with Madrid and his country: "He was in the team who won LaLiga in 2020/21, his second trophy that he won as an Atleti player after the 2018 Europa League. 2018 was a year in which he was also a runner up in the World Cup with Croatia, whilst representing our club".
The farewell was a moment to wish Vrsaljko "the best of luck" in his future professional challenges.
