On the day, the home side went in front through Bensebaini after 20 minutes, with Herrmann doubling his side's advantage just two minutes later. Herrmann completed his brace just before the hour mark, before Sommer was finally beaten in the closing minutes of the match by Bittencourt, the match ending 3-1.
This year, the two sides meet in the final game of the Bundesliga season. While Gladbach's chances of European football are now over, Bremen are fighting for survival after dropping into the relegation zone last weekend. They will be led by new manager Thomas Schaaf after previous manager Florian Kohfeldt was sacked with just one match remaining.
