Barcelona sporting director Deco gave an interview to Mundo Deportivo in which he spoke about the use of the semi-automatic offside system to the one pointed out to Robert Lewandowski in the La Liga match against Real Sociedad.

In the last La Liga match before this month's international break, Barcelona lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad in San Sebastian. In the opening minutes, a Robert Lewandowski goal was disallowed for offside.

The referees relied on the semi-automatic detection system, which generated a lot of controversy because it could have confused the toe of the Pole's boot with that of defender Nayef Aguerd who was covering him.

Sporting director Deco gave an interview to Mundo Deportivo, a preview of which is already available and which deals precisely with this issue.

"I think that the VAR has not yet fixed the problems that, in theory, it was going to fix. Some things have improved, but, in others, we still have the interpretation of one person. Technology has not yet been able to be ahead of a human decision," he said.

"We still have controversial decisions like the one in Anoeta, which is surely not the right one. I don't understand, but if it's semi-automatic, it's not automatic. Someone has to press the button. We're like with a car: we don't know if it's automatic or if it's a hybrid... There's something they should explain to us. Why is it semi-automatic? I'm lost," he claimed.

"We don't want to go there because we don't want to make excuses, but there is a question: where is the mistake if there is a mistake? If not, nothing happens, let them explain it to us, but they have to explain something because we are a bit lost as to what the semi-automatic is if there is influence from the VAR if the referee can't do anything," he spun before answering whether Barcelona will ask the Spanish Football Federation for explanations.
