David de Gea was close to extending his contract with Manchester United. However, the Old Trafford outfit backed out at the last minute.
According to 'The Athletic', the Spanish goalkeeper put pen to paper on the renewal offer from the Red Devils but the English club decided not to sign. They presented a new deal with an even bigger salary reduction.
The 32-year-old was willing to renew his contract despite the £375,000-a-week reduction but is now considering his future. He will have until the end of June to decide whether to renew or look for a new destination.
The same media outlet reports that negotiations are progressing but De Gea will have the final say on his future. Several Saudi Arabian clubs are targeting the Spaniard and he could end his time in the Premier League, which began in 2011.
